The East Stroudsburg Area School District Board of Education will hold a Property/Facilities Committee Meeting on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Middle Smithfield Elementary. Cafeteria
HS North senior Mike G. was recently presented the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation "Scholar-Athlete Award," at a banquet held at the Northampton Community Center. Mike, who will attend Princeton University, played center this fall for the T-Wolves and is currently ranked #1 academically in his East Stroudsburg-North senior class. Mike was selected from among nominees from 33 other schools from P.I.A.A. District XI, and is the first football player in ESASD history to receive this award. Present were Mike's parents Michael and Dorothy, NFL Coach Dick Vermeil and T-Wolf Coach Chuck Dailey.
Congratulations to Kevin C., Rashida E., Kelechi O., Frank B., and Robert M. for advancing the third round of the annual Spelling Bee. The five students from JTL and LIS will be participating with students from around the county on March 30, 2010, at the South High School Auditorium.
The Key/Leo Club at North High School welcomed Invisible Children for the first screening of the Legacy Tour! The roadies for Invisible Children drive around the United States bringing awareness to everyone about the war in Uganda and the children that are kidnapped and forced to fight. The Key/Leo Club also recently had a book drive to donate books to Schools for School which is a way of helping Invisible Children pay for a scholarship in Uganda or help fund a roadie tour right here in North America, the books are contributing directly towards life change.
The HS South Special Olympics Team, once again, won the Basketball Championship at Freedom High School. The final score was 38-18. They competed in a skills competition and four 5 on 5 Basketball games. Thanks to our Special Olympic Student helpers... Well done!
Li Ling G., Dakota K., Angelo I., Nadja H., and Adrian A., 5th grade students from J.M.Hill, read a 1000 poems by their 1000th day of school.
On Sunday, February 21, Ariel H. and Chris D. represented the East Stroudsburg Area School District at the 18th Annual Susquehanna University Honors Band Festival. This is a yearly honors festival that chooses musicians to participate from hundreds of applicants. As members of the North band, Ariel plays flute and piccolo and Chris plays horn.
Nadia H, 5th grader at Resica, used the power of stuffed animals to make a difference. As part of her service learning project assigned by her gifted support teacher Mrs. Sue Eden, Nadia created an event at Resica Elementary called "Paws and Think About Diabetes". K-5 students were encouraged to bring in their favorite stuffed animal for a donation of any amount. Each student or teacher bringing in an animal received a "dog tag" which provided educational information about diabetes. Nadia also sponsored a "Casual for a Cause" Jeans Day for teachers and staff at Resica. Altogether her events raised over $400.00. All her donations will be forwarded to the American Diabetes Association.
The DECA Fashion Club at HS South was victorious at the State Career Development Conference Competition. Raenita R. won 2nd place in the Careers in Marketing Event and Grace G. won the PA Business Partner Scholarship Award. We also received the New Chapter Recognition Award ! Congratulations to all who competed: Grace G., Jamie B, Jessica G., Raenita R., Avize B., Rebecca C., Veronica F, Veronica P. Dana R., Shakera K.
